Youth Independent Living Specialist - Full Time & Part Time Available:

Monday - Friday:
2nd Shift: 3pm - 11pm

3rd Shift: 11pm - 7am

Weekends

Day Shift: 7am - 7pm

Night Shift: 7pm - 7am

Job Description -Independent Living Specialist (ILS):

North Star is searching for energetic, and dedicated individuals who are willing to support and guide young adults (16 - 21 years old) in our independent living environment and provide one on one quality, care to our young adults. The ILS will provide mentoring, support and assist to our youth to work towards independence. The ILS mentor our youth with daily activities, resources to education, employment opportunities, behavioral challenges, social activities, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Education

• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must possess a LEVEL ONE DPS FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE CARD.
• Minimum high school diploma or GED, additional education recommended
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Experience or training/education in caring for children or special populations.
• Knowledge of behavioral health care for children – (i.e. medication reviews)
• A clean MVD driving history for past 2 years.
• Must be able to climb stairs, stand for long periods of time, maintaining alertness at all times
• Current TB test and a physical showing free from communicable diseases
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must be willing to attend training and obtain training as required by State requirements.
• Active listening and supportive feedback skills.
• Capable of using good judgment and politeness when dealing with youth, co-workers and stakeholders.

North Star Independent Living Services, LLC provides transitional living services for foster care teens who desire self-sustaining independence when leaving the foster care system. Accordingly, our philosophy is to identify a developmental approach to meeting each youth “where they are” in terms of skill/competency for independent living and proceed to the next level of development based on each child’s ability and cooperation.
