Saw Operator

Purpose/Summary:

A Saw Operator performs duties necessary to cut material according to customer specifications using saw equipment.  In addition to preparing orders according to customer specifications, a Saw Operator is also responsible for the proper set-up, communication with proceeding shifts, and for monitoring saw equipment. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Loads equipment with product using the overhead crane and/or forklift in order to prepare the equipment for an accurate cut.
• Prepares saw to cut material by programming the computer to customer specifications.
• If necessary, tack welds material to prevent pieces from falling out of the bundle.
• Measures material before and after the cut to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
• During the cutting process, monitors equipment and cleans the work area by sweeping floor, rinsing metal chips off product, etc.
• Hand grinds material after cut if needed and removes metal chips from the material using an air hose.
• Accurately completes the necessary reports after inspecting and measuring the cut product.
• Performs preventive maintenance as needed including (but not limited to) changing the saw’s blade, air filter, etc.
• Completes assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices.  This includes regard to individual safety, the safety of other employees, and the safe use of equipment in the workplace.
• Wears approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned by a supervisor, lead person or management.
