The Property Management Accountant will thrive in leading a team and client-facing engagements where they can demonstrate their extensive technical experience and in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and processes to our high-net-worth individual and business clientele who rely heavily on our guidance and thoughtful planning advice. As an accomplished trust-builder, the Property Management Accountant will join prospective client meetings alongside our business development team, support the proposal process, and ultimately lead the transition and execution of accounting deliverables, including compliance and strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

With the support of the Director of Client Accounting Services, the Property Management Accountant will work alongside a team to provide accounting and business advisory services for a variety of clients with a focus on individuals and small businesses. They will support the management of a portfolio across a variety of industries, of clients of varying size and scope.

 

It is essential that the Property Management Accountant nurture relationships with co-workers and clients while adhering to rights and responsibilities of accountants and practitioners as outlined by IRS IRC Circular 230.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:


- Oversee the day-to-day accounting activities of our clients, including ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.

- Prepare and analyze client financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and relevant regulations.

- Contribute to the budgeting process of the firm and provide insights for future financial planning.

- Conduct variance analysis and provide recommendations to our clients for cost optimization and revenue enhancement.

- Analyze client financial data, identify opportunities to enhance accounting procedures and internal controls, and provide insights.

- Liaise with client external auditors during quarterly and annual audits.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial initiatives and provide guidance.

- Mentor junior staff members and assist in their professional development.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a senior or supervisory role. Real estate industry and business operations experience is preferred. The candidate should have thorough knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting, and be proficient in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, etc. The candidate should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. The ideal professional will meaningfully engage with multiple clients and provide exceptional customer service.

 

Education and experience expectations are as follows:

- Bachelor’s Degree

- 4+ years of experience in property management accounting with a focus on individual and small business returns

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)

- Successful track record for developing strong client relationships through a project management system

- Able to take the lead on tasks, work independently, efficiently, and accurately with minimal supervision

- Detail oriented and strong organizational skills for handling multiple projects simultaneously

- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and adaptable to change
