Pastry Chef

Café Japon, a popular Japanese café located in the heart of Brooklyn's Japan Village, is seeking a skilled and experienced pastry chef to join our team. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about Japanese cuisine and culture, and who has a strong background in creating authentic and delicious Japanese pastries.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop new Japanese pastry recipes that are unique, innovative and meet the high-quality standards of Café Japon.
• Prepare a wide range of Japanese pastries that incorporate traditional Japanese flavors and ingredients.
• Oversee the entire pastry-making process, including ingredient preparation, mixing, baking, decorating, and plating.
• Manage inventory and ordering of all pastry ingredients and supplies.
• Work collaboratively with the Café Japon kitchen team to ensure that all food items are delivered to customers at the right time and in the correct portion size.
• Keep up-to-date with the latest industry trends, techniques, and technologies related to Japanese pastry-making.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment that meets all health and safety standards.

Requirements:

• At least one year of experience as a pastry chef specializing in Japanese pastries.
• Thorough understanding of Japanese pastry-making techniques, ingredients, and cultural practices.
• Proficient in using Japanese pastry-making equipment such as wooden molds, steaming baskets, and traditional Japanese utensils.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks efficiently.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.
• Creativity and innovation in developing new and unique Japanese pastry recipes.
• Degree in culinary arts or pastry-making is preferred.
