Responsible for assisting the Executive Sous Chef and Sous Chef in the planning and execution of daily food production in Dining. Assist in training of staff.

 

Job Details & Responsibilities:

  • Assists supervisor in preparation of all types of food items for lunch and dinner including but not limited to slicing, grinding, cooking and panning of meat, vegetables and pastries.
  • Assists in replenishing serving line. Assists in setting up and breaking serving lines. Assists in serving of the meal items, food quality and presentation. Trains and leads staff on serving lines.
  • Assists supervisor in cleaning the whole kitchen area, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and storage area.
  • Assists in creating recipes and menus. Oversees food display and garnish on all serving lines.
  • Advises supervisor on the condition of kitchen equipment and the need to repair or replace any equipment.
  • Checks computer printout for menu amounts and recipes. Reports any discrepancies to supervisor. Submits food usage report to supervisor.

 

Required Qualifications:

High school graduation or GED. At least two years of experience as a lead cook in a commercial cooking establishment. At least two years of experience working with computerized recipes. At least two years of experience operating high volume cooking equipment.

 

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

A culinary degree. Over 2 years of experience as a lead cook preparing food in a commercial restaurant establishment. Over 2 years of experience working with computerized recipes. Over 2 years of experience operating high volume cooking equipment. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills. Professional demeanor. Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and oral University and Housing and Dining policies, procedures and work related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers. Demonstrated ability to work with little supervision. Two years experience supervising 10 or more employees and delegating tasks. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Have and maintain a current ServSafe Certificate or a current Travis County Food Handlers Card.

 

Salary Range

$30,680 + depending on qualifications

 

Working Conditions
  • Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished).
  • May work in extreme temperatures.
  • May work around chemicals.
  • Use of manual dexterity.
  • Climbing of ladders.
  • Lifting and moving. Pushing, pulling and moving up to 50 pounds; Lifting and moving up to 62 pounds.
  • The successful candidate must successfully complete testing for strength and agility prior to employment.
