Location: Multiple locations - Moline, IL, Waterloo, IA, Cary NC, Fargo, ND
 

As a Senior Electric Drives Systems Engineer, for the John Deere Enterprise, you will define functional and detailed software requirements and coordinate the software development and implementation with vehicle platforms, John Deere Electronic Solutions, and external suppliers. This software will run on electric drive electronics, such as: inverters, converters, vehicle supervisory controllers, and battery management systems used on agriculture vehicles worldwide.  While this engineer does not write software, you will:
 

  • Write software feature and functional requirements and write detailed software requirements.
  • Work with John Deere Electronic Solutions and external suppliers on the implementation of software to meet inverter, converter, and battery management system functional requirements.
  • Work with vehicle platform software engineers on the implementation of vehicle controller software to meet electric drive system functional requirements.
  • Perform algorithm and closed loop control simulation in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Develop, implement, and test application specific software parameters (end of line). 
  • Conduct software integration testing in lab and on vehicle (vehicle controller with actuator on CAN bus, interface, faults, diagnostics).
  • Vehicle software troubleshooting and defect resolution.
  • Complete Integrated System Delivery Process "software" deliverables.
  • Work on a project team to define and develop the engineering requirements of electric drive systems for vehicle programs, design electric drive components and systems, deliver electric drive solutions across multiple Deere platforms meeting requirements for performance, quality, reliability, and schedule.

What Skills You Need 

  • 4 or more years of Product engineering experience
  • 3 or more years of software development experience or requirements development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to write feature, functional, and detailed software requirements of significant magnitude
  • Demonstrated ability to constructively work with suppliers or internal teams on the implementation of software from requirements to meet functional requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to develop production software meeting project functional requirements, schedule, and budget goals
  • Demonstrated ability to develop software test plans
  • Ability and willingness to travel, up to 25% (both domestic and internationally)

What Makes You Stand Out 

  • Embedded software development experience with vehicle systems
  • Proficient user of MATLAB/Simulink for model-based design
  • Experience working with suppliers in the application and design of electric drive components such as inverters and converters
  • Experience with J1939 Controller Area Network (CAN) and associated development tools
  • Experience with John Deere software development processes and tools in production projects
  • Technical experience relating to the design and development electric drive systems
  • Advanced technical degree, Masters level or greater

Education (or equivalent work experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
