Ground School Instructor

POSITION PURPOSE

The Ground School Instructor (GSI) works in a standard office environment. The GSI provides Ground School instruction on aircraft systems and their functions to Air Cargo Carriers Flight Crewmembers for the safe operation of the aircraft in normal, abnormal, and emergency situations. The GSI is held responsible to the development and implementation of the Ground School training curriculum and maintains Ground School training materials, records, and reports. Maintains current flight systems publications and bulletins and supports the alignment of training practices with the operational environment. Supports in the development of teaching tools including programs required for continuing pilot qualification.  This position would be working in a Part 135 required Ground school instruction for the pilots and should have a strong understanding of working in this environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Provides ground school instruction for initial, upgrade, and recurrent classes for pilots.
• Tracks and trouble-shoots online training.
• Conducts departmental audits of curriculum training paperwork for crew qualifications.
• Trains additional Instructor staff.
• Builds positive relationships with other subject matter experts (SMEs), FAA, airline leaders, and other stakeholders.
• Provides technical and regulatory guidance when collaborating with Flight Operations and Flight Training teams regarding proposed training, manual changes and procedural changes to ensure FAA compliance, crew safety, and service reliability.
• Trains Ground School students to enhance performance capabilities through aircraft systems knowledge and to ensure proper flight procedures are followed.
• Evaluate students in their progression through syllabus, identifying possible gaps and providing recommendations when necessary.
• Operate flight training devices to demonstrate systems, their functions, and procedures for flight operations.
• Keeps abreast of all operational and regulatory changes and requirements.
• Provides technical leadership to team and department members.
• Leads through example, monitors, influences and trains others.
• Provides input to supervisor on performance reviews and helps to identify development needs.
• Conduct and assist with pilot interviews as requested
• Assist in forecasting training needs.
• Participate in the Training Review Board (TRB)
• Performs various other duties as required.

Preferred Education:  

• Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S.) or equivalent in Aviation and FAA ATP Certificate with at least 5 years previous experience. PREFERRED but not required.
• Specialty training beyond high school in Aviation or FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with at least with at least 1 year of related experience.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.  All candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen prior to hire and will also be required to completed random testing.

• Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S.) or equivalent in Aviation and FAA ATP Certificate with at least 5 years previous experience. PREFERRED but not required.
• Specialty training beyond high school in Aviation or FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with at least 1 year of related experience.

• Must be punctual and willing to put in a little extra time to answer student questions after class
• Have an enthusiastic and engaging attitude toward instruction
• Must have full knowledge of all curriculums authorized to teach.
• Experience and/or ability to teach and perform well in a classroom setting.
• Computer and eLearning skills required.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Capability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Skilled the interpretation of a wide variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• Able to stand up to 80% of the time.
• Able to lift up to 25 pounds under 35% of the time.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to travel up 10% of the time including overnight and weekend travel.
• This position is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
