Family Service Intern

Job Purpose:  To the effect of direct supervision of the Director of Family Service will maintain a caseload of individuals, couples, families, and groups; identify and evaluate presenting problems and related symptoms; provide counseling services in VOCA, Parenting, Anger Management, and other general mental health counseling services; make diagnostic impressions, develop treatment goals and plans, apply appropriate therapy techniques to assist the client to develop and gain greater emotional stability and more appropriate behaviors. Explore and utilize new methods, knowledge, and techniques in order to understand and effectively provide intervention, and to advocate when indicated on behalf of clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Interviews clients to obtain information to complete intake, identify problems, evaluate requests and offer appropriate services, immediate and ongoing. Refers clients to other agencies when appropriate.
• Observes client to detect indications of abnormal or mental behavior.
• Completes requirements for all contracts and grants and meets all agency standards, operating procedures and policies, including case recording/documentation, service plans, and termination summaries; inform client of their rights and responsibilities while receiving services.
• Plans and administers therapeutic treatment such as behavior modification and stress management therapy to assist patient in controlling disorders and other problems.
• Changes method and degree of therapy when indicated by client reactions.
• Discusses progress toward goals with client such as and modifies goals as needed to meet clients’ needs and abilities.     
• Uses a variety of evidence-based treatments during clinical therapy sessions.
• Report to Director of Family Service in regards to referrals for clients to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling.
• Enters and keeps current all appropriate supporting documentation in client record.
• Completes reports including monthly reports and other data as outlined in the Program and Clinical Policy & Procedure Manual.
• Maintains professional code of conduct as identified by the code of ethics, state and federal regulations, and company policy and procedure.
• Effectively communicates with supervisor regarding current case, treatment, modalities, ethical situations, and other case related issues as needed.
• Assist other staff as needed.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Health and actively enrolled in a Master’s Degree program in Behavioral Health. Student is to obtain 600 hours of applied internship hour requirements towards graduation within six months of hire and related experience and/or training.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid driver's license

PCI

CPR

VOCA training within 3 months of hire.
