SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under direction, The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to forging and machining production according to Orchid procedures. The Engineer II, Manufacturing reports to the Engineering Manager, Orchid Lansing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•    Evaluate current manufacturing processes, applying knowledge of product design, to assess current production efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement.
•    Develop new manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; conducting research, engineering solutions, and testing manufacturing methods/ equipment.
•    Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout using sound engineering principles and Lean Thinking.
•    Ensure product and process stability by designing testing methods, testing finished product, determining process capabilities, establishing standards and confirming manufacturing processes.
•    Lead manufacturing improvement decisions based on analysis of calculated production, labor, and material costs to ensure future requirements are met.
•    Set up equipment and ensure satisfactory operation. Instruct others to use the equipment properly by creating procedures and standard work instructions, and providing training for the operators.
•    Keep equipment operational by establishing maintenance and repair service metrics. Provide input for planned and preventative maintenance activities.
•    Identify and lead efforts to reduce scrap, reduce rework, improve training and support production as needed.
•    Support development of a world class health & safety environment, including performance of safety assessments and design, development, and implementation of ergonomic improvements.
•    Lead all activities in a professional manner, focusing on the team development aligning with Orchid’s core values
•    Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations and ensuring the Quality System requirements are followed.
•    Lead quality and compliance by utilizing One Orchid global processes and complying with all Quality Management Systems (QMS) documentation requirements and establishing/supporting plan(s) to meet/exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Quality that support Safety, Compliance, Six Sigma Quality, On-Time Delivery (OTD) and financial objectives.
•    Assist and train others as needed.
•    Review standard work and work instructions for accuracy, train as needed.
•    May be required to perform additional duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager or management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•    B.S.M.E. degree, or a B.S. degree with a concentration of Materials Engineering or related field.
•    No less than 3-5 years’ experience as a Manufacturing Engineer is required.
•    CAD experience is preferred but not required.
•    Experience in capital appropriation evaluation and analysis.
•    Training in Problem Solving preferred.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
•    Ability to apply logic and reasoning to solve problems, including identifying strengths/weaknesses, locating alternative solutions and conclusions, and approaches to problems; and making high-quality, timely decisions
•    High attention to detail.
•    Good oral and written communication skills.
•    Excellent problem solving skills.
•    Ability to read prints with an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
•    Must adhere to Company Code of Conduct and Core Values.
