Earthwork & Underground Utilities Estimator

GENERAL OUTLINE:

Robust heavy civil construction company looking for an experienced estimator in earthwork and underground utilities. This position works closely with company’s upper management, administrative assistant, data analyst and field project managers to develop hard bids and keep projects within budget. Candidate for this position should be capable of working independently on a variety of estimates & bids and also able to work in teams.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with management / bid team to track and select projects to bid
• Review project postings and identify those ideal for bidding
• Quantify project components / requirements
• Visit project site to understand site conditions / specifications which impact bid
• Communicate effectively between owners, contractors and vendors
• Prepare accurate cost estimate for materials, equipment, utilities, etc
• Plan and lead bid review meetings with management
• Assess and select subcontractors and vendors needed for completion
• Budget spending for contracted projects
• Onsite visits to contracted jobs to ensure execution is efficient and within budget
• Assist in development of best practices

ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:

• 5 years’ experience as an estimator pricing & bidding civil scopes of work
• Previous success in leading an estimating team
• Detailed oriented
• Willingness to work as a team member
• Ability to work independently in putting together bid materials
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft office products & experience using Excel
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of unit costs & take off tools to prepare bid quantities

JOB TYPE:

• Full time salaried position, generally Monday – Friday but may vary depending on bidding status & needs
• Salary commensurate with experience & skills

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction or related field
