Pay Period: Hourly
Fixed Salary: $ 14.61
Weeks per Year: 15
Hours Per Week: 40
 

Please note-this is a Migrant Seasonal Head start operating 15 weeks a year from mid June to early September.
Hiring may be delayed due to CV-19 outbreak.

This position has a combination of bus driver and custodian duties. Transportation is one part of a large system of services provided to children and families. It plays an important role in supporting the overall goals of the program. This position is responsible for the transportation of children and parents/families between program activities and home including field trips and helping to keep the vehicle clean and in safe operating conditions at all times. In addition, this position is responsible for a safe, clean and functional center. Bus and custodial assignments, vehicles and routes may be changed as deemed necessary for program operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The minimum requirement is high is a current in-state Commercial Drivers License (CDL) WITH a School Bus and Passenger and Air Break Endorsements and other criteria specifically required by the state. HS Diploma/GED preferred.
This position requires pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post accident, random and return to work drug testing as part of the CDI Head Start Transportation Drug and Alcohol Testing Plan and must be included in the DOT testing pool.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bus Driver :
Monitors and maintains all vehicle fluid levels.
Keeps the interior of the vehicle clean at all times. Cleans the exterior of the vehicle as weather allows.
Maintains required paperwork for vehicle maintenance and program requirements.
Reports any damage or malfunction immediately to the staff person in charge of transportation supervision.
Performs emergency bus drills.
Responsible for gas and oil receipts and recording and submitting totals to immediate supervisor as well as reconciling receipts with statements. Follows up on charges that do not reconcile.
Collaborates with the Bus Monitor in teaching children the correct safety procedures for boarding and exiting a bus as well as the danger zones around the vehicle
Custodial:
Collects information; participates in planning, upgrading and minor repairs of facilities. Prepares estimates of the material and labor costs of maintenance projects.
Acquires knowledge of federal, state and local safety and building code requirements related to Head Start/Early Head Start facilities within first month on the job, including, but is not restricted to, OSHA and MSDS chemical inventory, “Right to Know” training, etc.
Cleans facilities on a daily basis and ensures that assigned facilities are clean and free of hazards.Cleans classrooms, hallways, floors, bathrooms, offices, entrances, etc.
Performs routine maintenance such as replacing light bulbs and maintaining equipment used in the course of work. Performs routine maintenance of buildings and grounds during program breaks and more often, as needed.
Reports safety, sanitation, and fire hazards to supervisor and/or staff person in charge of facilities.
Performs outdoor tasks such as snow removal, sweeping steps, porches and drives, maintaining parking lot, mowing lawns, trimming shrubs and trees, raking gravel or leaves, clearing parking areas, etc.
Performs minor plumbing, painting, carpentry and some electrical repairs or repair work in assigned facilities, where a professional license is not required.
Ability to lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Ability to operate light equipment for minor construction or repairs. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instruction. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings.
Must maintain current Commercial Drivers License, with School Endorsement, Passenger, Air Break Endorsement and meet all state requirements applicable to vehicle being driven.
