In 1994, the Colorado League of Charter Schools was founded to support the enactment of the Colorado Charter Schools Act by serving, protecting and advocating for the growth of public charter schools. The League’s mission is to improve student achievement by supporting Colorado’s public charter schools, positively reshaping the public school landscape, and advancing opportunities for innovation and expanded high-quality public school choice. Over the years, the League has helped to create the second strongest charter school law in the nation, which has paved the way for the development and advancement of Colorado’s charter school sector.
Today, the League offers an array of services to support Colorado’s charter public schools from concept to application to the moment they first open their doors and throughout every stage of their life cycle. Because of the favorable climate that the League has helped to foster, nearly fourteen percent of the state’s school-age population attend charter schools, a higher proportion than 48 of 50 others states including the District of Columbia. The Colorado League of Charter Schools has 19 staff members and serves 261 charter schools statewide with 127,000 students.
