Job Description:

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking an experienced engineer to serve as the Technical Owner for our Operations Engineering team, which services the software engineering needs of our legal, finance, customer service, and HR teams. A successful individual in this role will create, communicate, and drive technical architecture and implementation plans while mentoring less experienced engineers in the skills needed to execute those plans. This position reports to the Operations Engineering Manager.



What You’ll Accomplish

Design, build, optimize, and maintain observable software. You will be a key contributor to your team's code.
Help lead the team's agile software development process. Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Coordinators to communicate technical needs and restrictions to the team's stakeholders and help plan future work.
Create implementation strategies and constructively critique strategies suggested by others from anywhere in the organization. Contribute to the conversation on Discogs' engineering-wide practices, processes, and tools.
Act as a resource and mentor for less experienced team members to help them fully understand the team's work and plans, pair- or mob-programming with them when necessary.
Partner with other Technical Owners and Engineering teams to help the systems maintained by your team work well with other teams' systems.
Possess empathy for Discogs’ users to influence the team’s task prioritization.
Show initiative and seek evidence in data to support ideas.


Must Have:

10+ years of Software Engineering experience 
3+ year experience in containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
3+ year experience with event/message streaming technologies (Kafka)
Thorough understanding of HTTP APIs
Fluency in at least one server-side language, Python preferred


Great to have:

2+ years of working in Agile/Scrum/Kanban teams 
Practical experience with data science (mining, warehousing, lakes, reporting frameworks) strongly preferred 
Finance Knowledge , especially GAAP, copyright law, and/or privacy law 


Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering from four-year college or university, or equivalent technical work experience
