Tactical Air Control Party Operator/Maint

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides technical expertise on unit simulator and unit Joint Terminal Control Training and rehearsal System (JTC TRS) and Joint Theater Air Ground Operations Simulator (JTAGSS) matters, to include updating, troubleshooting, repairing, operations, maintenance, upgrades and keeping current with any changes to the system(s) or procedures including future upgrades to include any Gateway(s)/Network systems and connections used with the simulator. Applies Information Technology (IT) security principles, methods, and security products to protect and maintain the availability, integrity, confidentiality, and accountability of information system resources and information processed throughout the system’s life cycle. Provides onsite technical and logistics support, familiarization training, preparation for system operation, system health monitoring and troubleshooting, software/hardware discrepancy identification, removal/replacement of non-functioning hardware, software installation, system status reporting (such as trends, deficiencies, and repairs) and operates the simulator device as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

•  Maintain software baseline in accordance with Simulator Program Office (SPO) and Technical Support Services Center (TSSC) guidance while monitoring the operation of simulators and ensuring hardware and software are functioning properly and operation standards are met.
• Function tests simulator hardware and software to resolve technical problems and make appropriate on-site repairs of complex problems and operating malfunctions.
• Store system security audits in accordance with simulator Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation requirements and establish and troubleshoot network connectivity on approved simulator networks as needed.
• Provides administrative and technical support for all IT simulator issues and ensures baseline system requirements are met to maintain network connectivity of simulator system.
• Installs simulator operating system software, patches and apply applicable system controls.
• Provide Air Support Operations Center (ASOC), Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) and TACP subject matter expertise utilizing current and emerging Tactics Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) for Close Air Support (CAS), Theater Air Control System (TACS), and Command and Control (C2).
• Maintains working knowledge of current Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) related to air to ground operations focused on JTAC, TACP, and ASOC mission.
• Researches and sources various DoD, Joint, and service-specific documents to develop and execute realistic combat scenarios across the entire spectrum of military operations to provide training for all ASOC operator positions and JTAC/TACP personnel simultaneously.
• Assist in training upgrading military simulator operators as required.
• Maintains knowledge of Close Air Support (CAS) aircraft TTPs, munitions, and procedures to ensure that CAS aircraft in simulation events accurately mirror the actions and effects that personnel will experience in real-world operations.
• Create scenarios that accurately reflect the challenges of coordinating operations in a combined arms fight.
• Responsible for monitoring and reporting the status of all squadron owned mission crew/operator training devices and network operations to facilitate uninterrupted simulator operations to the squadron and higher headquarters, as required.
• Prepares reports as required.

Secret Clearance Required

Education and/or Experience

• Required qualifications and experience:
  • 1) Must possess (or complete within 6 months of hire) and maintain information assurance technical (IAT) Level 1 or higher. This requirement can be met by completing one of the following certifications: A+, NET+ OR System Security Certified Practitioner (CE). 2) Three years’ practical experience with air to ground combat operations. 3) Three years’ practical experience with military simulation training device operations. 4) At least six months experience operating/maintaining simulation equipment and/or virtual technologies. 5) One year experience in design, development and execution of exercises/evaluations.
• Desired qualifications and experience:
  • 1) Bachelor’s Degree 2) Group level or above staff experience. 3) Experience with JTC-TRS, JTAGGS or other MACE/VRSG based simulation/virtual technologies. 4) Practical experience working with ASOC, JTAC, and TACP. 5) Practical experience in scheduling and setup of simulation equipment and/or virtual technologies for exercises. 6) System Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP).

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Compliance with all company Information Systems security policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper classification and marking of all information and materials, in any form, produced by the incumbent. Shall be assigned specific responsibility for Information Security by immediate supervisor or department management. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval.  Incumbent shall execute company non-disclosure agreement prior to access to any controlled information. Secret Clearance Required.

Language Skills

Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.   Will be required to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints.  Must be able to generate effective oral and written presentations and proposals on complex subjects. 

Mathematical Skills

Must be able to calculate figures and amounts, and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Obtain/maintain information assurance technical (IAT) Level 1 or higher. This requirement can be met by completing one of the following certifications: A+, NET+ OR System Security Certified Practitioner (CE).
