Systems Engineer

Job Summary

The Systems Engineer will work closely with all members of the IT staff to answer, escalate and resolve issues related to any Windows and Linux servers, storage array, server software applications and virtualized systems. The candidate will also need to be available 24x7 to support both production and corporate systems in an on-call rotation and must be able to travel to and from data centers at all hours of the week as needed to resolve any issues. Ability to lift heavy computer equipment is required. The candidate we will consider will have backup experience, monitoring experience (Splunk, Logic Monitor, and New Relic would be helpful, or any one of the three), and patching experience with SCCM.

Responsibilities

• Supports efforts to improve IT processes.

• Ensures the consistency and maintainability of existing applications by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures for implementing technical solutions.

• Reports network and system’s operational status by gathering, prioritizing information, managing projects.

• Contributes to the company's strategic IT plan development and future growth with respect to IT Infrastructure and policy.

• Works in a consultative fashion with other departmental leaders.

• Conditional oversight of technical projects in alignment with organizational goals.

Knowledge and Skills

• Certifications such as VMware, MCSE, AWS are desirable.

• Knowledgeable of the Dell Rack with the ability to deploy and support firmware, OS and Hypervisor deployment, DRAC/Lights Out management interfaces configuration. Any rack-mount server experience could be substituted.

• Knowledgeable with VMware ESXi including updating hosts via VMware Update Manager, Using VMware Compatibility Matrix.

• Knowledge of SIEM and Splunk would be beneficial

• Knowledgeable with vCenter Operations Manager/vRealize including configuring, upgrading and diagnosing issues in virtual environments

• Knowledge in Linux/Unix administration is desired.

• A passion and ability for scripting and coding is a must.

• Knowledge of monitoring (Splunk, Logic Monitor, and New Relic are desirable).

• Patching experience with SCCM

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or five+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
• Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of practical problems.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.
