Job Responsibilities
  • Provide counseling to patients in both individual and group sessions on a daily or weekly basis to encourage changes in destructive behaviors and assistance in overcoming dependencies.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records for every patient containing the patient's history, counseling procedures and services provided, progress completed, and any further issues or treatments required.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, family members, government entities, and colleagues as necessary to evaluate a patient's condition, form relevant and measurable goals, create a customized treatment plan, and share recovery progress.
  • Establish open and honest communication with clients and their family members, and provide detailed information about addiction, behavioral issues, available services and treatment plans, and methods for continuing growth and development.
  • Evaluate patients continually throughout treatment to accurately assess results of specific programs and modify goals and methods as needed, including referring patients to other experts as necessary.
  • Create and implement comprehensive aftercare programs customized to each patient's individual needs and circumstances.
  • Act as liaison between a patient and family members, medical staff, probation officers, and courts as needed to pass along relevant information about treatment and help create a viable support network for continuing care.
     
Job Skills & Qualifications

Required
 
  • Bachelor's degree ( accepted), Master's degree ( preferred in Social Work and/ Counseling) appropriate state license (LLMSW, LMSW, LLPC, LLP, TLLPC, ) and must obtain a Development Plan, CAADC, CADC through MCBAP, and successful passage of background check
  • Ability to communicate with angry, frustrated, or violent patients calmly and professionally
  • Understanding of 12-Step methodology
  • Confidence to make decisions without continuous oversight from management
Preferred
  • Previous clinical experience

The National Council On Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Greater Detroit Area (NCADD-GDA) has over 68 years of experience serving people impacted by substance abuse and is currently involved in comprehensive programming that spans the entire treatment continuum (Prevention, Assessment, Outpatient, intensive Outpatient, and Recovery Services). NCADD-GDA is one of almost 100 affiliates across the country that embodies the axiom that recovery is possible. This agency is also affiliated with the National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACOA), a research and advocacy organization. NCADD receives most of its funding from federal substance abuse block grants, Healthy Michigan (Affordable Care Act) and Medicaid allotments through the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority (DWMHA). NCADD-GDA also receives funding from United Way of southeastern Michigan, as well as, through the generosity of its consitinetents.

CARF accredited (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), NCADD-GDA provides prevention, treatment, recovery and advocacy services in Southeastern Michigan. Among its many regional activities, NCADD is the lead organization for the annual Michigan Celebrate Recovery Walk & Rally. Planned with more then 20 other organizations, this event has hosted up to 2,000 people in recognition of the National Recovery Month. For these efforts, NCADD received the 2011 National Recovery Month Award. In 2012, NCADD was the National Hub event for Faces & Voices For Recovery, which had national & local speakers, and 4,000 attendees.
