Job Description:
How You’ll Make a Difference

As a member of our Internal Support Team, you will help Fireside in our quest to better-enable members of Congress to serve their constituents.  When a customer has a problem or a question regarding our platform, they contact our top-notch A-Team (aka the Account Team), but sometimes the issue takes deeper technical knowledge. That’s where you come in.

You will be the bridge between our customer support and engineering teams  - monitoring and addressing internal requests for software engineering support, finding the root cause of issues, and doing general troubleshooting/creative problem solving within the application and a client’s environment.  And because you always want to find a way to do things better, you’ll be creating tools that empower our customers and account team to address recurring questions and issues themselves, and just generally make our product support better.

You’ll have a real sense of accomplishment, knowing that when you help our clients keep in touch with their constituents, you’re making a difference.

Who Are You?
  • As part of your daily toolbox,  you are comfortable in
    • SQL or an equivalent query language
    • Bash or some other form of shell scripting
    • Python, Java, C# or a similar coding language
    • Experience with Javascript and/or Typescript are pluses, as well as experience with customer support/ticketing environments.
  • You take pride in your work and are driven to learn and to improve.  You need to automate tasks that are done repeatedly, make that script run more efficiently, address issues that cause frustration for clients or colleagues.
  • You’re a nerdy people-person (in all the best senses). You have an analytical mind that enjoys problem-solving and working through puzzles, including engaging with people positively to figure out what’s really the problem. Coding for you is fun, not work.  You like being part of a team.
  • You truly enjoy helping people and making things work better.  Assisting someone with a problem is an opportunity, not an annoyance. Rather than getting flustered, you find that having a variety of things to do makes the day fly by.
  • You’re a good verbal and written communicator who can translate tech stuff into human-speak (in English!).
  • Bonus:  If you have some IT experience you’d be willing to share as part of our team, our systems administrator would like to meet you…
Why You Will Love Fireside
At Fireside we are passionate about making Congress work better and more efficiently, and that has propelled us to become the fastest growing software vendor on Capitol Hill. We have a fun, casual and collaborative work environment where we successfully manage over 175 clients in the House of Representatives (that’s over 1/3 of the House!). Our beautiful office is in the heart of the city, just blocks from the Capital One Arena and the National Mall.

We have the best of both worlds: we look and act a lot like a start-up (nimble, jeans-friendly, great snacks!), but we are not struggling to find product / market fit—instead we are actively solving big challenges for our customers while we continue to grow our base. That means that we have the stability of a well-established company with structure - for starters a cool office in a great location, terrific benefits - while at the same time there’s the exciting vibe of a growing company.  And our team loves our signature Fireside Fun activities each month, that include happy hours, ropes courses, cooking classes, and baseball games (even during rain delays).

If this job and our culture sound like what you are looking for, we would love to hear from you!

How to Apply
  • Don’t:  Send us a standard cover letter.
  • Do:  Tell us why you want to be a part of our team.  Optionally, tell us about your favorite board game, or what role the Emperor will play in Episode IX.
