- Description
- Perform new product design validation testing and sustaining engineering on x86-based motherboards and systems as directed by senior technical staff
- Perform product testing during design phase for manufacturability and Design Margin analysis / Robustness
- Perform testing on x86-based motherboards and systems as directed by senior technical staff in support of Production
- Organize specific test data and compose test reports. Report test results in a clear and concise manner to senior technical staff
- Provide technical support to the Engineers for: cost avoidance, cost reduction and value engineering (component selection)
- Defect reduction team
- Creating, reviewing and releasing product and test report documentation
- Maintain workstations in good working condition and keep work area clean and organized.
- Maintain miscellaneous supplies on above reorder level, reporting reorder data to Purchasing.
- Helping to maintain the Lab in an orderly fashion
- Attend meetings and/or briefings as needed.
- Attend seminars and classes both internal and external to enhance employee skills in all areas of Intel-based PC style product design and development, product and systems debugging
- May be required to drive to a vendor site, customer site, FedEx, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Hands-on design tool proficiency – OrCAD CIS and Allegro ECAD SW, Lab equipment
- Familiarity with x86 architecture, ISA, PCI, and PCI Express
- Working knowledge of HW-SW interactions and compatibility issues
- Hardware rework and repair skills including high precision soldering techniques
- Install Operating System Images to system storage devices
- Follow specific instructions from senior technical staff to conduct and record the results of product testing
REQUIREMENTS, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Typically requires AS/BS degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent plus 3-5 years applicable electrical engineering support experience
- Team oriented; interacts within cross disciplinary NPI teams
- Knowledge of the following: Bill Of Materials; Commodity Knowledge; Continuous Manufacturing Quality Improvement; Design for X (DFX); Manufacturing Technical Knowledge; Product Lifecycle Management; Design Tool Proficiency; Lab Experimentation/Debug; Conflict Management; Cross-Functional Influence; Data Analysis; Presentation and Demonstration Skills; Written Communication Skills.

- Summary
Under the direction of senior staff members perform technical analysis activities on companies Intel-based motherboards and systems. Evaluate new products such as power supplies, hard disk drives, optical drives, keyboards and mice. Perform form and fit analysis on our motherboards in system enclosures. Make recommendations for design changes to improve production yield and product performance. Assist, as needed, in the Lab with cataloging engineering component and motherboard inventories. Maintain test equipment calibration.
