Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, performs radiographic, fluoroscopic and portable procedures as requested by a
physician to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Performs any combination of the following duties
depending on the area of assignment. Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide
care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit. Performs other duties as assigned.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

1. Performs diagnostic radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures such as chest, extremities, spines, catheter
placements, etc.
2. Cares for patients during procedures by assisting them to rest rooms, giving them blankets, etc. Prepares
patients for their exams.
3. Reports changes in the patient's condition to others for follow-up.
4. Transports patients by stretcher, bed, wheelchair, or walking. Provides care for patients during transportation
and in the department, if necessary.
5. Assists patients by lifting and moving them off and on the x-ray tables. Provides bedpans and urinals as
needed. Assures that patients are properly dressed for their procedures.
6. Performs related duties such as reporting equipment malfunctions, assists others, and special assignments.
Cleans work area and replenishes supplies.
7. Assists with emergency medical treatment under physician direction.
8. Assists with the scheduling of patient exams.
9. Attends regularly scheduled department meetings and in-services.
10. Technologist may give contrast medias and may flush lines with normal saline contrast/normal saline.
11. Under direct supervision of the Radiologist, the technologist may pull Lidocaine/buffered Lidocane for
procedure.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA: QUALITY OF WORK
QUALITY:

Completes requested radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations with a high level of technical quality. Including
but not limited to the following:
· Patient identification (check patient wristband), name and medical record number, and proper film I.D., i.e.,
patient name, proper side markers, etc.
· Proper patient positioning
· Proper exposure technique
· Proper radiation protection techniques
Obtains medical history, explains procedures and completes necessary documentation. Including but not limited
to the following:
· Patient registration and consents
· Patient arrival

  • Q.A. and Verify (to include proper modifiers.)

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Demonstrates job knowledge through department competencies for each area of responsibility.
DEPENDABILITY:
Assumes responsibility for own actions, including follow-up and completion of tasks in an effective and timely
manner.
Fulfills departmental and Hospital responsibilities including: attending staff meetings as appropriate, reading all
meeting minutes and posted communications, participating in departmental performance improvement activities,
attending all Hospital and department-specific required inservices, and maintaining an active role in problem
solving and resolution.

Uses free time between procedures to maintain a safe work environment, ensure adequate levels of supplies, assist
with x-ray files and reports when necessary, maintain QA for equipment.
ATTENDANCE:
Assumes responsibility for attendance and punctuality in order to promote the efficient operation of the Hospital
and essential components of solid employee performance. Poor attendance and tardiness disrupt productivity and
make it difficult to function effectively. Each employee shall be responsible for being present at the correct time
each day. (See Attendance APM for further details.)

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Stays current with field of practice through journals, articles and other pertinent literature.
Attends approved inservices and workshops
Maintains twelve (12) type “A” CEU’s each year.

POPULATION – SPECIFIC CARE:
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the populations served. This
includes demonstrating knowledge of the principles of caring for the following, but not limited to, geriatric,
pediatric, developmentally-challenged, special needs and physically-challenged, and various diagnoses,
interventions, procedures and operations performed for patients served.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. Education: Completion of a two-year Radiologic Technology training program approved by the AMA
required.
2. Licensure: ARRT, CRT certificate and *Fluoroscopy license are required. Current BLS/Healthcare
Provider status as per American Heart Association standards. Valid California Driver’s License required.
3. Experience: At least one (1) year of experience as a licensed technologist preferred.
4. Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Knowledge of radiographic equipment and radiation safety (patient and
operator). The ability to assist with patient injections and changing dressings requires the use of fine motor
skills and precise hand/eye coordination.
5. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, public and co-workers. Work
requires ability to communicate effectively about complex matters with others who have varying levels of
comprehension and knowledge (written and oral).

7. Essential Mental Abilities: The ability to evaluate a patient's condition such as respiratory, cardio-
pulmonary or neuro, and be able to respond to changes due to contrast reactions.
8. Essential Sensory Requirements: The ability to evaluate a patient's condition such as respiratory, cardio-
pulmonary or neuro, and be able to respond to changes due to contrast reactions.
9. Performance Improvement: Assumes active role in the department’s Continuous Performance
Improvement Program. Develops, implements and assesses Continuous Performance Improvement efforts
as assigned.

Salary Range: $59.48 - $79.18
