Job Description:

Riverworks Development Corporation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has a small social enterprise called Riverworks Cleans.  Riverworks Cleans holds a variety of contracts involving improving aesthetics of neighborhoods and business districts as well as individual properties.  A Public Service Ambassador is a position that requires flexibility and the ability to carry out different tasks related to cleaning, landscaping, snow shoveling, working indoors and outdoors in different climates, driving trucks and utility vehicles, etc.  In particular, we are looking to ramp up our workforce for a new contract we acquired involving removing illegally dumped items from City owned vacant lots.

Duties:

  • Work in small crews to remove illegally dumped items from City owned vacant lots – this will be the bulk of the work for new employees to start.
  • Remove litter and trash from sidewalks and curbs in Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) we have contracts with – currently four different BIDs in the City of Milwaukee.
  • Perform basic landscaping activities, including mowing, weed whacking, pruning, etc.
  • Carry out snow removal contracts – requires flexibility as we cannot predict snow.  Might have to work weekends and different hours depending on time and amount of snowfall.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Riverworks Cleans Business Manager and Director of Neighborhood Development.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License, operating vehicle and automobile insurance.
  • Must have a good driving record and be insurable as Public Service Ambassadors may be required to operate vehicles.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED/HSED.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work on your feet outdoors for full 8 hour days.
  • Must be able to work outdoors under different weather conditions.
  • Must be responsible, dependable, honest and trustworthy.
  • Must have good communication skills and be able to interact effectively with Riverworks staff and the general public.
  • Must be able to safely operate a weed trimmer, leaf blower, lawn mower, and other basic landscaping equipment – if you do not have experience with this equipment, you must be able to learn quickly.
  • Must live in the City of Milwaukee.
  • It is a plus to have relevant work experience.

Work Schedule:
30-40 hrs per week.  This position is SEASONAL due to winter months.  Schedule  also will depend on the City owned vacant lot contract and the amount of illegal dumping orders we receive.
