Position Title: Off Grid Solar Photovoltaic Installer

Type: Full Time, Non- Exempt

Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 

Location: Flagstaff, AZ, including travel across the Hopi & Diné (Navajo) Nations

Supervisor: Workforce & Education Manager

Native Renewables Inc. is a Native/Indigenous led not-for-profit organization (501c3) incorporated in 2020 (informally established in 2016) to promote the use of off-grid solar photovoltaic (PV) with battery storage systems to address the urgent energy needs for remote households on the Hopi and Navajo Nations. Our mission is to grow Indigenous-led solar power knowledge and solutions with Hopi and Diné (Navajo) families and communities. Our headquarters is located in Flagstaff, AZ. The Opportunity

You will be joining a team of trailblazers in one of the fastest-growing industries. You’ll be contributing to the Native Renewables mission by making site visits to homes to install and provide maintenance on solar PV systems. You’ll be communicating with homeowners to provide knowledge on how to use and maintain their PV systems. This position will be expected to travel as much as 75% of the time. This position provides room for growth, both in PV installation, and teaching solar concepts to the Native communities and youth.

Primary Responsibilities

Solar Photovoltaic Installation & Maintenance- 80%

  • Work with the team to install racking and PV modules on ground mount skids or sleds. Install off-grid solar PV systems according to the design plans using a variety of modules, mounting hardware, inverters, and batteries.

    • Layout and assembly of solar modules/array and mounting hardware

    • Mechanical/ structural/ install mounting of racking, modules and electrical equipment

    • Electrical wiring of photovoltaic array and Balance of System  (DC and AC).

  • Perform maintenance on photovoltaic systems annually

  • Maintain a clean and safe job site

Customer Service & Education- 15%

  • Provide exceptional customer service experience and share knowledge with customers

  • Represent the organization and interact with the customer in a professional manner

  • Help train solar workforce 

  • Proactively resolve equipment and PV system issues and troubleshoot onsite or virtually

 

Team Communication & Reporting- 10%

  • Improve processes and proactively review workmanship onsite

  • Coordinate with team to ensure all materials and equipment necessary for installation are available onsite and communicates job status to customer and leadership

  • Attend weekly team meetings and mandatory training sessions on new products, installation methodology, and safety.

  • Write project reports

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in general construction

  • Knowledge of PV equipment and installation

  • Experience installing off-grid solar PV

  • Have basic electrical wiring knowledge

  • Valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to carry, push and pull up to 50+ pounds

  • Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and work from heights

  • Prolonged periods of repetitious duties including lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience reading one-line and three-line diagrams; and equipment manuals.

  • OSHA 10 certification

  • NABCEP PV Associates Certification

  • Understand and/or speak the Diné (Navajo) or Hopi language
