Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Mechanical Engineering Directorate (MED) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment. The Mechanical Engineering Directorate uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Six Sigma principles. MED’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test and documentation. The Antenna and Sensors Department within MED designs some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. 

We are looking for a highly motivated person to work in team environment and independently as mechanical and metrology engineer. Apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics and design to IDS products and programs. Work with laser trackers, laser scanners and other state-of-the-art measurement equipment within facilities, customer locations and supplier sites. Educate and mentor junior team members with guidance of best practices and knowledge of industry standards and protocol. Requires high attention to detail and quality of work.


Responsibilities: 

  • Measurement and alignment of large and small complex structures

  • Data analysis and reporting using SA (Spatial Analyzer) software

  • Interface with customers both internal and external

  • Domestic and international travel assignments

  • Initial extended international travel assignment
     

Required Skills:

  • SA (Spatial Analyzer) software knowledge and experience

  • Ability to operate laser trackers and peripheral equipment

  • 2+ years working in metrology and alignment field in various environments

  • Strong written and oral communication
     

Desired Skills:

  • Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, or Mathematics

  • Familiarity with all brands of laser trackers

  • DoD Secret Level Clearance (past or present)

  • Experience with radar, antenna or pedestal design

  • Demonstrated mentoring and leadership skills

  • Working knowledge of military and commercial design, materials, and process specifications

  • Demonstrated experience within a team environment

  • Able to interact well with team members across various disciplines, including electrical engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and the program office

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical design and analysis

  • Able to make sound technical decisions

  • Good presentation and technical writing skills

  • Experience with CREO (Pro-E) or similar CAD tool

  • Experience with ANSYS or NASTRAN structural analysis finite element software

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel and Power Point

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, or Mathematics

Base Salary - $75,000 to $83,000
