SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Manager, Operations is responsible for leading the people, production, safety, maintenance and training of all people, processes and equipment in his/her assigned area by collaborating across departments . This position will also work with Quality and Compliance to ensure the desired result.

The Manager, Operations reports directly to the Senior Manager, Operations for the area.

KEV JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and develop team members following the One Orchid global talent management approach to select, manage, and develop our best team. Ensure the growth of our positive business culture through behaviors that align with our core values and leadership competencies .
  • Leads employees who direct shop-floor processes or operations. Educates team members on Orchid's goals, the site goals, and the ar ea's goals and sets expectations with team members on how to reach those goals. Ensures that team members have the knowledge, ski ll, and resources they need to maintain operations.
  • Plans and coordinates the work activities and resources necessary for manufacturing products in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications.
  • Coordinates production needs and serve as a liaison between production , quality assurance & compliance, operators, customer service , plant management andmaintenance.
  • Reports on the progress status of all open continuous improvement projects. Maintains project timelines, provides progress updates, and ensures projects are completed on time with the anticipated results

 
  • Prepares and supports the budget planning process and takes responsibility to meet the financial targets.
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality, maintenance, and tooling to determine causes of nonconformity with product specification and production problems and provide solutions
  • Implements Key Performance Indicators (KPl's) based on guidance from the Director of Operations.
  • Actively participates with the management team to support and implement initi ativ es. Ensures appropriate parties are informed of problems that may hinder the ability to support and implement these initiative s.
  • Ensures all production processes operate efficiently to achieve the established production plan
  • Provides front line problem solving and involves other areas of technical expertise as required to provide hands-on process assistance to the production departments to reduce downtime and maintain efficiency.
  • Reports shift production information as required ensuring shift KPl's are achieved as well as the work needed with our systems and reports.
  • Involves engineering and maintenance personnel to modify machines and equipment to improve production.
  • Runs daily production meetings.
  • Identifies, tracks and reports out on anything preventing a job from starting and finishing on time and in full
  • Plans and schedules equipment maintenance & repairs to support production schedule
  • Working with Maintenance, oversees and manages maintenance of all equipment. This includes preventive, predictive and repairs.
  • Keeps informed of and tracks machine breakdown reasons and works to prevent them
  • Leads safety by complying with all safety procedures and promoting the health and welfare of all team members. Works with the Production Department leads to maintain safety policies and procedures and manages the safe operation of all processes and equipment.
  • Collaborates with quality and compliance by utilizing One Orchid global processes and complying with all Quality Management Systems (QMS) documentation requirements and establishing/supporting plan(s) to  meet/exceed  Key Performance Indicators (KPls)  for Quality that support Safety, Compliance, Six Sigma Quality, On-Time Delivery (OTD) and financial objectives. Manage quality plan development & execution; addresses production concerns in PQA to ensure countermeasures are made in a timely manner. Monitor quality standards of productions. Analyzes production and quality control to detect non-conforming products.
  • Ensures team members have the required knowledge and skills prior to performing job duties independently, including conducting, documenting and evaluating training effectiveness. Oversees the training of new employees on standard work instructions and policy/procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or directed.
 
EXPERIENCE
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with machinist or operator experience required
  • 2+ years of experience supervising people required 
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to set expectations, coach team members, and hold them accountable to achieve expected outcomes
  • Able to promote workplace safety by communicating and ensuring compliance with safety policies and regulations.
  • Able to employ tools and techniques for manaing interdependencies of major production functions.
  • Able to lead a function to achieve production targets with consistency of output in a manner that meets the customer needs and company quality requirements.

 
  • Ability to apply logic and reasoning to solve problems, including identifying strengths/weaknesses, locating alternative solutions and conclusions, and approaches to problems; and making high-quality, timely decisions
  • Able to utilize effective decision-making approaches to reach productive decisions.
  • Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse sit uati ons.
  • Ability to contribute to operational (short term) and tactical (1-2 years) planning in support of the organization's goals.
  • Knowledge of procedures and tools for scheduling and controlling production runs and assuring quality deliverables.
  • Knowledge of the process, practices and systems used to optimize planning for manufacturing cycles and ensure capacity and materials availability .
  • Knowledge of and ability to use the Gemba Kaizen methodology to identify and eliminate manufacturing waste through iterative improvements to processes.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field required.
