Job Description:

Interning with us has been described as "unforgettable internship where I had a fantastic time."

We’re looking for someone who wants to learn by doing - you’ll be helping us over the next several months on a part-time basis in this unpaid internshipWe’re acquiring insurance agencies - we've acquired 1, we're under contract for another and we have a pipeline.  You will work with us as we go on this journey of an industry rollup - researching and analyzing specific parts of the market, potential acquisitions; doing competitive analysis as well as sourcing deals; financial analysis; and the post-merger operational improvement efforts.

After we buy the companies we are going to operate them, so this is more than finance.  Skills used in top tier consulting are a part of this effort.  One founder is a former BCG consultant.

You'll be involved in the various parts of the M&A process.  You’ll learn a lot - guaranteed.  Plus you’ll work with 2 experienced investors, operators, and entrepreneurs who have complementary skills & experiences.  1 founder has a Harvard Business School case written on them and both have 20 years of experience.

The types of activities you may be involved with include:

  • Analyze a market - size, growth, key players, industry dynamics, key pain points, etc.
  • Analyze a company - create lists of potential companies to acquire based on key insights we have about how to identify them
  • Sourcing companies to acquire - finding a company to buy is incredibly hard since there’s so much capital in the market so we’ll be working on creative approaches to get the attention of owners & convince them to sell to us.
  • Due diligence - for potential acquisitions we’ll analyze their financials, their customer & employee base, key risks, etc.
  • Prep for investment - investor strategy, financial model, etc.
  • Post-merger operational improvements - which vendors to use to optimize operations; how to best source talent; opportunities to improve revenue; etc.

I’m a serial entrepreneur, experienced executive, board member, angel investor, and Harvard MBA. I started my first company in undergrad and sold it upon graduation to pursue consulting with The Boston Consulting Group before later going back into startups.  For the past 20 years I’ve had exits and been involved in many private equity owned businesses both early stage and LBO.  I’m on the advisory board of several early stage companies and I advise private equity backed companies.  I’ve been involved at the beginning of over a dozen start-ups, seen ups and downs, and seen exits.

My business partner Jude is a Wharton MBA with 20+ years of experience founding, acquiring, and restructuring companies.  He has sold 2 companies that he ran.  He had an early vision about the power of data science and was the Founder of IRIS Consulting. The firm provided data analytics and pricing optimization services for corporate clients. Jude then started Geminus Capital Partners, a private investment firm focused on acquiring and restructuring companies. He has repeated success increasing revenue, profitability, and productivity resulting in up to 3x the return of invested capital to investors.  In 2008 through a search fund Geminus Capital Partners acquired Penn Warranty, a vehicle service warranty and insurance company. He leveraged his experience in AI and data analytics and transformed the company into one of the most technologically advanced, innovative, and profitable companies in its sector. The successful restructuring included targeted divestitures and acquisitions, and optimizing operational efficiency which resulted in a stronger balance sheet, higher productivity, brand improvement and ultimately – revenue and profit growth. He also executed a successful exit strategy, selling the company to Kingsway Financial (NYSE: KFS) in 2019.  He has deep operational expertise in quantitative analysis and optimization, operational and financial restructuring, multi-channel sales and marketing, and team leadership. He has developed, managed, and mentored teams across multiple functions.
