The Litigation Paralegal’s role is to support the attorney and client once the decision is made to place a case into suit. Periodically, you may also handle a case from “cradle to grave.”
Duties and Responsibilities
The Litigation Paralegal’s job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Track and coordinate client treatment through weekly and bi-weekly phone calls and electronic communications
- Participate in comprehensive client meetings
- Interview witnesses, law enforcement, and treating providers
- Perform comprehensive review of medical records and bills
- Prepare medical chronologies
- Communicate and coordinate with doctors and medical providers
- Communicate and coordinate with experts and vendors
- Scan, name, and file documents in accordance with Firm naming conventions
- Order police report and collect witness statements and information
- Submit FOIAs to various government entities
- Order all medical records, billing records and case-related documents
- Collect information on lost wages, lost income and tax returns
- Communicate with adjusters, opposing counsel and Court personnel
- Obtain and verify patient balances
- Assist clients with liens
- Conduct monthly file reviews with the assigned attorney
- Perform legal research using Lexis and other platforms
- Prepare Pleadings, Notices, Discovery Responses and Requests
- Schedule Hearings and Jury Trials
- Manage Electronic Case Files including small and large-scale Document Productions
- Attend Trial in both State and Federal Courts
- Prepare Trial Exhibits, Presentations and Binders
- Coordinate logistics for Trial
- Manage Attorney Trial Calendar including PTSO and other deadlines
- Prepare Attorney(s) for Hearings, Depositions and Trial
- Coordinate Judicial Settlement Conferences and Mediations
- Schedule depositions and arrange court reporters, videographers
- Review vendor invoices and submit for payment
Qualifications
Must be a team player, well organized and capable of successfully handling multiple deadlines at once. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook is required. Familiarity with Needles is a plus.
Qualified applicants should have at least 5 years litigation experience in a law firm setting, with at least 3 years trial experience; Personal Injury experience strongly preferred. BS or BA degree preferred, but comparable experience will be considered. Spanish speaking applicants are encouraged to apply.
