Contract Assignment : 3 + months, possible Contract to Hire
 

SPECIFIC NOTES:

  • Prior experience working with HVAC and ventilated systems preferred.
  • This is a Junior level position and needs someone with 2 to 4 years of relevant experience. This person would be moving thing around, collecting the water samples for testing.
  • Some experience working with different cleaning machines.

Qualifications:

  • Two years of relevant experience in at least one trade area, which may include vocational training or time spent as an apprentice is required.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English is required.
  • Duties and responsibilities require manual dexterity and general mechanical, electrical, carpentry, welding, and plumbing expertise; ability to handle hand tools, power tools, and special equipment.
  • The Maintenance Person must possess the ability to withstand extensive walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, and squatting.
  • Must be capable of lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds and pushing or pulling equipment weighing several hundred pounds.
  • He/She must also have the ability to climb and work from stepladders.
  • Must be proficient in using email and be able to learn other common software programs (i.e. Word, Excel).
  • Must have basic knowledge of or an ability to learn water mechanical/filtration and sterilization systems maintenance.
  • May be required to work on weekends and after hours as necessary.


Description:

  • Seeking a Maintenance Person II to perform necessary maintenance and repairs to ensure the proper operation of lighting controls, automatic watering and HVAC systems, as well as a variety of equipment (cage washers, bottle washers, autoclaves and cage racks).
  • Other responsibilities include fabricating and installing shelving, pictures, clocks, earthquake bracing, and providing other customized solutions/repairs, such as, door closures, door stops, painting and patching of holes in walls and ceilings; coordinating the maintenance/repair of systems and equipment with internal and external groups; maintaining a system to document the submission, tracking and completion of work orders (i.e. paper-based and software solutions); developing, writing and reviewing standard procedures (SOPs) for the operation, care, and routine maintenance of systems and equipment; and operating department vehicles to transport caging and equipment for repair, storage and disposal, as well as purchasing supplies at local stores.

 

Performs necessary maintenance and repairs on systems/equipment:

  • Adjusts light cycles on mechanical and electronic systems (As needed)
  • Replaces light bulbs, ballasts in hallways, laminar flow hoods and animals rooms (As needed)
  • Replaces pre-filters in animal holding rooms for HVAC systems, laminar flow hoods (MONTHLY, or more frequently as needed based upon change in animal room pressure)
  • Replaces parts, pumps and/or motors on cage washers, autoclaves, ventilated cage racks, and other VSC equipment (As needed)
  • Replaces castors on racks and carts (As needed)
  • Welds caging, equipment, and shelving units (As needed)
  • Measures airflow in animal rooms and other animal facility areas using an anemometer to determine air changes per hour and room pressurization . (As needed).
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment such as adjustments to cage wash belts, greasing wheels/castors on racks and cart and other routine tasks.
  • Conducts rounds to ensure proper operation of lighting controls, automatic watering and HVAC systems, and various equipment (cage washers, bottle washers, autoclaves, cage racks, etc)
  • Checks for proper light cycles in animal rooms. (WEEKLY)
  • Submits water samples to Diagnostic Lab for analysis (DAILY)
  • Replaces water filters (WEEKLY)
  • Installs/repairs plumbing (As needed)
  • Fabricates/installs shelving, pictures, clocks, earthquake bracing, and provides other customized solutions/repairs on door closures, door stops, painting and patching of holes in walls and ceilings. Assembles equipment and shelving (As needed)
  • Coordinates the maintenance/repair of systems and equipment with internal and external groups as needed (i.e. SoM Engineering/Maintenance; contractors), including submitting electronic work orders, making calls/emailing for troubleshooting and scheduling maintenance and repairs. (As needed)
  • Maintains a system to document the submission, tracking and completion of work orders (i.e. paper-based and software solutions). (DAILY)
  • Purchases supplies and equipment for maintenance and repairs using Purchasing Card (WEEKLY) Submits necessary receipts and justifications to support purchases. (WEEKLY)
  • Operates department vehicles to transport caging and equipment for repair, storage and disposal, as well as purchasing supplies at local stores. (DAILY)
  • Develops, writes, and reviews standard procedures (SOPs) for the operation, care, and routine maintenance of systems and equipment in collaboration with others, including documentation of repairs made and actions taken.
