Job Description:

***THIS APPLICATION NEEDS TO BE DONE ON A COMPUTER - IT WON'T WORK ON MOBILE.  Be sure to upload your resume here***

Background: We’re looking for an intern who wants to expand their skills and build their business and operational experience while learning the insurance industry from the inside.   The founders have 20+ years of experience and are both experienced entrepreneurs, executives, and investors and have run insurance businesses as well as several other types of businesses.  We are building a large insurance distribution business including many agencies.  We have a small 2-year old MGA which creates custom insurance products and we have acquired a 30-year old multi-location independent P&C insurance agency (https://atozinsuranceonline.com/.)  The agency has both personal lines and commercial lines.  We are building out operations at this agency as our platform on which we'll be acquiring other P&C retail agencies.  You’ll be helping us optimize processes, technologies and overall operations.

OVERVIEW
You’ll learn to work inside a growing agency and see all aspects of the agency.  This role will work with and learn about all parts of the agency – sales, support, marketing, finance, compliance and analytics. Someone considering a career in insurance or risk management would benefit tremendously from this role whether they want to work with a carrier, agency, MGA reinsurer, or corporate risk manager.  The skills will also be good generally in other industries too. You’ll interact with leadership of the holding company, agency leadership and client facing staff.

This will give you demonstrable results in your resume and interviews for full-time roles when you graduate.  When you're done with the internship you'll be able to demonstrate to future employers what you accomplished in the company.  We will have full-time employee roles available in the future.

What you'll learn:

  • how to use the main software in the insurance industry
  •  how to read & compare insurance policies, especially cyber policies
  • how to think about insurance underwriting for types of clients' risk
  • how to setup operations for an insurance distribution business
  • how to think about growing insurance sales
  • how to setup a company so it can scale up smoothly 5-10x larger in the future

You'll learn more in this internship than a year in school. This is intended to be a part-time internship lasting 1 semester.  However some interns enjoy and learn so much from the experience they ask to stay on a 2nd semester and we have allowed that if you're performing wells.
This is an unpaid internship.

Most companies wouldn’t give student interns anywhere close to the scope and responsibility that we will - many internships remain fairly theoretical, however, we're confident that a smart, hard-working student with the right guidance can be successful.
