The Challenge
We are hiring an entry-level Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP) Responder Transportation Worker to join our Incident Management Assistance Patrol team.

In this role you will:

    • Operate an IMAP vehicle on traffic control deployments conducting route surveillance, incident response, and removal of disabled/abandoned vehicles.
    • Manage traffic systems controls and incidents/congestion.
    • Perform routine motorist assistance duties and debris removal to facilitate traffic flow and minimize congestion.
    • Communicate by two-way radio with other NCDOT units, the NC State Highway Patrol, county and city emergency response and support agencies.
    • Work directly with the public and maintain a professional demeanor/appearance.

What You Bring
    • Experience performing manual labor such as changing tires, and minor mechanical repairs.
    • Knowledge of the area's highway network.
    • Basic math skills, and good use of English and grammar.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication.
    • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and techniques of highway incident response.
    • Ability to monitor 2-way radio and phone systems.
    • Skills in the safe use and care of assigned equipment, hand and power tools.
    • Ability to lift 50-75 pounds.
    • Ability to function in stressful situations that require immediate responses.
    • Emergency Response experience.

Notes:
    • You will generally be required to work an 8-hour shift between 5:30 AM - 9:30 PM five days a week.
    • You may be required to work additional hours, shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
    • You will be subject to emergency callback 24 hours per day 7 days per week and will be required to provide a phone number where you may be reached at any time.
    • You will work outside and inside in extreme cold and heat, with noise vibration, on uneven and steep terrain, and around hazardous substances.
    • Safety toe footwear is required within 30 days of hire.

Management Prefers
    • Candidates with a valid state driver's license.

Education & Experience
    • High school/GED diploma; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
