 Role

 

Under direct supervision performs health related work of moderate difficulty by assisting the health care provider in the clinic setting.

 

Major Duties, Responsibilities

 

  • Optimizes clinic work flow including escorting patients to exam room, carrying out patient history interviews, taking and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, providing patient information/instructions and exiting patients. (70%)
  • Conveys clinical information to patients on behalf of the provider after receiving specific instructions in areas such as taking medications, special diets, prescription refills and laboratory tests. (10%)
  • Organizes and maintains clinic exam rooms and work space including restocking supplies in patient rooms, maintaining inventory and sterilizing instruments. (5%)
  • Performs basic in-house laboratory tests including finger stick glucose or hemoglobin dip-stick urinalysis, rapid test for strep infections and electrocardiograms. (5%)
  • Administers medication and treatment to clients, as directed by the provider. (5%)
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned. (5%)

  • Balances job responsibilities assuring clients receive timely care without undue waiting in exam rooms or lobby. Works to assure clients receive provider care within 20 minutes of registering at front desk.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic health care methods and practices, including the correct methods for collecting laboratory specimens.
  • Demonstrates skill in verbal and written communications with ability to effectively exchange and convey information and receive work direction.
  • Understands health care concepts pertinent to work requirements and is able to provide accurate and thorough teaching to patients as directed by the health care provider.
  • Is able to recognize and report a patient's health status accurately.
  • Responds to community emergencies with a public health consequence according to the Community Health Service's Emergency Response Plan.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Experience:
No experience necessary.

Education:
A high school diploma or GED.
