Purpose/Summary:
A General Laborer is responsible for finishing and packaging parts according to customer specifications. This includes but is not limited to hand grinding, use of belt sander, Dynafile, die grinder, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Locates material and if necessary moves the material to the appropriate area using equipment such as a forklift or overhead crane. Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 75 pounds of material. Product in excess of 75 pounds must be moved either via team lift or use of appropriate device(s). Ask your supervisor if there are any questions.
- Weighs material to determine proper packaging method and to ensure that material will reach the customer destination in a safe and presentable manner.
- Counts out the number of parts in order to fill the customer’s order accurately.
- Grinds parts according to customer specifications and company procedures using the hand grinders, belt sander, Dynafile, die grinders, etc.
- Completes associated paperwork in accordance with company guidelines. Completes the order on the mainframe computer system by wanding the order and accurately entering required information.
- Prepares shipping tags using the department computer or by completing the tag manually if necessary.
- Communicates with previous/proceeding shifts as to work in process, priority of work orders to be completed during the next shift and any other pertinent information to ensure the smooth flow of production between shifts.
- Notifies the supervisor and/or maintenance department when department equipment is not running correctly or when assistance with preventive maintenance is needed.
- Completes assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices. This includes regard to individual safety, the safety of other employees, and the safe use of equipment in the workplace.
- Wears approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned by a supervisor, lead person or management.
