Job Description:

Summary

 

This position is responsible for various duties associated with operating a dozer (D-5, D-6, D-8, 650 and 850).  This is a full time seasonal union position.  Overtime as needed.  This position reports to the job foreman.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Perform duties and follow directions as assigned by the job foreman and GPS/Technology Coordinator.
  • Operate various dozers – for sub-cut, building pads, shape piles, rip frost, push bowls, grade to elevation.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
  • Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work.
  • May be lead position onsite to direct other equipment.
  • Able to work with operators of other equipment.
  • May operate compactor during the course of the day.
  • Work in rough terrain.
  • Follow all applicable company, state and federal safety procedures and laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Skills Recommended

 

  • Check fuel supplies at sites to ensure adequate availability.
  • Learn and follow safety regulations.
  • Dependability – Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.
  • Adaptability/Flexibility – Job requires being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace.
  • Initiative – Job requires a willingness to take responsibilities and challneges.
  • Member of 49’s Union or willing to join upon hire.
  • At least 3 years previous similar work experience.
  • Should have knowledge of GPS system.
  • Continued education/training as needed.

 

Working Conditions

 

Work outside and in various weather conditions (ex. cold, rain, mud and heat).  Work in all soil types.  Heated / Air conditioned cab – can be hot, loud, and dusty.  Must be able to sit for long periods of time.  Both arms used for repetitive motions and bouncing and jarring all day.  Time will be spent 10% bending, 20 to 30 lbs of lifting, 10% climbing and 70% twisting (neck, wrist and hand movement).
