LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) is now celebrating our 50th anniversary season. 50 years ago the orchestra was a small group of volunteer musicians. Now, the LCSO is a semi-professional paid orchestra with a season of concerts designed for people of all ages and musical tastes. We are proud to provide the LaPorte, Michigan City, and surrounding Northwest Indiana communities with music and experiences often not found outside of large, metropolitan areas. LCSO is searching for an Executive Director who will now lead the Orchestra, after successfully completing an Endowment Campaign, on to the next level of artistic excellence and financial security. The orchestra is engaged in 10-12 concerts per season including a 4 concert subscription series, 3 full orchestra education concerts, Holiday at the Pops, the acclaimed “Hoosier Star” concert as well summer concert and small ensemble offerings. JOB SUMMARY
Our Executive Director is responsible for leading LCSO in achieving the orchestra’s mission. To that end, the Executive Director is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the organization, as well as, implementing the policies set by the Board of Directors.
JOB DUTIES
Marketing, Fund Raising, and Development
- Responsible for the annual fund drive, corporate and individual sponsorships, special events, endowment campaigns, planned giving program, and identification and cultivation of donors.
- Prepare and submit grant applications and reports.
- Develop and implement marketing plan for subscription campaigns and for individual performances.
- Production of program books, ad solicitation, and related marketing materials for each concert season interviews and promotional opportunities, along with the Music Director.
- Supervision of the LCSO’s website and any social media outlets.
Administrative and Finance
- Maintain the business office of the organization
- Supervisory role to the Education Manager and the Office Coordinator.
- Develop and implement current and long-range administrative and personnel planning.
- Serve as ex-officio member at all Board Meetings and Committees.
- Ensure that accurate books of accounts are maintained as directed by the Board of Directors.
- Prepare and submit for approval annual operating budgets. Monitor and authorize expenditures in accordance with approved budget; prepare updated projections based on actual income and expenses.
Concert Production
- In consultation with the Music Director, seek and obtain new opportunities for performances by the orchestra and various orchestra ensembles.
- Negotiate and execute concert hall leases and rent other concert space as required.
- Supervise pre-concert needs regarding subscriptions and single ticket sales as well as front of house.
Artistic Administration
- Consult with the Music Director in the selection of guest artists, guest conductors, performing groups, and programs to support the orchestra’s artistic objectives.
- Negotiate contracts for all guest artists with budget parameters set by the Board.
- Maintain a copy of the current Musician Policy to be prepared for any consultations that may be needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of music required
- Previous fund raising and relationship building experience preferred
- Possess a strong writing ability for grant applications and fund raising appeals
- Previous administrative experience with an orchestra or other related arts field preferred
- Previous supervisory experience helpful
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel and Quick Books Online Version required
Benefits
- Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000 annually
- Vacation Days: 3 weeks
- Sick Days: 5 days
- Health Insurance: LSCO to contribute $2,000 annually to an HSA
