Combi Packaging is searching for a qualified individual to add to our team as an Engineering Modifications Designer.  This Engineer will develop new products, processes, machinery, and equipment for packaging applications.
 

As a team member in a dynamic and fast paced environment, the Modifications Designer role is critical to the success of designing custom products to meet customer specifications. The Mod Designer works closely with sales, project management, and operations staff to accomplish project objectives.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Release complete and error free drawing package and bills of materials to production on time
  • Evaluate existing models to identify most expedient design to release to production
  • Lay out and detail modification designs from existing models, including weldments, machining, assemblies, schematics, and component details
  • Manage new part number and bill of material documentation
  • Interactions with sales staff, project management, operations, and vendors
  • Develop standard modification kits
  • Modify existing product manuals for modifications
  • Create design schedule and manage backlog; participate in developing project timelines
  • Communicate lead times and design status to project management
  • Responsible for managing drawing vault drawing revision control and change releases, and product manual library and maintenance
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, communicating project status to critical project stakeholders, and escalating concerns when appropriate
  • Working with project team to develop and update documentation per customer requirements
  • Traveling as required to interface with customer engineering and manufacturing bases

Qualifications and Skills

  • Associate of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Drafting; or equivalent professional experience
  • Proficient with American Welding Society / American National Standard Weld Symbol Drawing Specifications:ANSI/AWS A2.4-79; proficient with AMSE Y14.100 - 2004 Engineering Drawing Practices
  • Proficient with electrical and pneumatic schematics and design practices
  • Proficient with current versions of Inventor and Solidworks
  • Knowledge of metal machining, forming, fabrication, and welding processes
  • Experience using MRP and/or ERP systems
  • Ability to exert self-initiative, meet deadlines, thoroughness of output, and communication skills are essential performance needs from this role
  • Attention to detail to successfully meet first time quality requirements is a must
