Job Description:

General Nature of Work

Under general supervision, this position implements educational programming, including field trips for schools and adult groups, general visitor programming, and informal learning activities.

Assists with special events and rentals to ensure positive guest experience.
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
 

Education

  • Working with Guest Experience Manager and other staff, develop and implement educational programming for all ages.
  • Help build new audiences and expand programming through collaborations.
  • Schedule school field trips and adult tours; schedule docents to lead tours.
  • Communicate with schools, garden clubs, senior centers, recreational programs, summer camps and day care centers to promote field trips.
  • Working with Guest Experience Manager, implement comprehensive annual docent training program.

Events

  • Assist with rentals and special events.

Additional

  • Welcome visitors; collect fees as appropriate, assist with Gift Shop sales, assist with answering phone; direct messages to appropriate person(s) in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, environmental education or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience developing and teaching informal education programs with preference for experience in a public garden, children’s museum or science museum.
  • Experience working with volunteers required.
  • Candidate with knowledge of local school system is a plus.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, work in a team environment, and with minimal supervision.
  • Necessary computer skills include Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.) and scheduling platform such as Sign Up Genius.

Physical Requirements: Job conditions require the ability to walk at least one mile without undue fatigue. This position will require various physical activity including bending, stooping, and squatting. Employee must have the ability to lift a minimum of 25-50 pounds.
