Director - Packaging Engineer

Reports To: VP Operations

PRIMARY FUNCTION
Ensuring optimization of process design, operations, training, and implementation.
Must be able to improve industrial processes in order to maintain efficiency, reduce
cost, improve sustainability and maximize profitability.
SUPERVISION:
R&D & Quality staff located at each site, overseeing the development as well as
implementation of all projects while working with site managers located internally and externally at customers' sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Must be mobile and willing to travel.
2. Must understand MVTR & OTR of various films commonly used within flexible
packaging industry today.
3. Capable of discussing with customers their product specifications, storage of
said product and applying that knowledge towards designing modified
atmosphere packaging, resulting in extending the shelf life of said product.
4. Should have a good firm understanding process capability (CPK) statistical
tools measuring the output of a process and how to improve that process.
5. Capable at leading, coaching & implementing lean 6 sigma through
collaborative team effort on site. Improve overall plant performance and
reduction of waste a plus in all forms.
6. Should have a good to firm understanding of extrudates, coatings, adhesives
and films commonly found within the flexible packaging industry today.
7. Should have a good to firm understanding of various manufacturing
processes i.e. Blown film, Cast film & Coextrusion.
8. Should be familiar with SQF
9. Capable of leading projects such as equipment installations, upgrading
current systems and processes.
10. Capable of leading and developing sustainable packaging and the best
practices that coincide with the development of those innovative solutions to
the environment.
11. Ensure we’re in compliance with company and industry standards.
12. Capable of leading a multi-functional team, and excellent computer skills .

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Includes level of education or experience; physical demands (i.e.
amount of time standing, sitting, talking, hearing, use of hands, reaching, typing, etc.); lifting requirements; vision requirements;
communication/presentation skills; business etiquette, etc...
1. Job / field experience an accepted In-lieu of formal education
2. 5+ years’ experience of applicable quality and manufacturing management, a

Bachelor’s degree. (Engineering or Chemistry is preferred)
3. Strong working knowledge of equipment and materials commonly used in
manufacturing.
4. Proven ability to identify and lead the implementation of meaningful quality and
process improvements.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
6. Ability to work with all levels of the organization and with suppliers and
customers.
7. Total Quality Management, High Performance Work Systems, Lean
Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience
8. Excellent interpersonal skills a must
