Job Description:

Healthy Schools Campaign (HSC), a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to making schools healthier places for all students, is seeking a full-time Development Manager who will support the mission and goals of the organization by helping to grow and implement a sustainable and vibrant fundraising program that includes major fundraising events dynamic volunteer engagement and donor stewardship programs and has an emphasis on building stronger voluntary leadership structures as well as expanding Healthy Schools Campaign’s base of individual donors. The Development Manager will report to the Vice President of External Affairs and work with a dynamic team of colleagues.

 

HSC works at the local, state and national levels. This position will be based in Chicago.

 

The Development Manager will be a key member of HSC’s development team and will work in partnership with organizational leaders, including the President/CEO, executive staff and board members, to do the following:

 

Donor Stewardship Plan: Individual Giving

Support development and implementation of a dynamic donor development and stewardship program that includes individual donors (both major and small) and family foundations. The Development Manager will be an active leader in building the stewardship program, engage directly with existing and potential donors as well as provide event management and administrative support for the program.

 

Event Development + Execution

Support development and implementation of donor engagement, stewardship and fundraising events. This will include an annual luncheon as well as events and activities that are developed as part of new donor stewardship and volunteer programs that the Development Manager plays a role in building.

 

Recruit and Support Voluntary Leaders

Support development and implementation of a plan for increasing volunteer leadership throughout the organization. This will include providing research, stewardship and administrative support for efforts to grow HSC’s Board of Directors, committees and event fundraising committees, as well as connect volunteers with other HSC programs and activities.

 

Corporate and Event Fundraising

Research, qualify and help develop and implement engagement and stewardship strategies for corporate donors in support of all HSC programs. Identify prospective corporate donors and work with HSC team to develop and execute strategies for engagement.

 

Help identify and build leadership structures and pipelines for event and committee chairs for fundraising events.

 

Administrative Support

Provide administrative support for corporate and individual fundraising campaigns, fundraising events, volunteer programs and committees. This includes ensuring HSC’s database stays up to date with information about each campaign, donor and donation request.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years post-college employment in development-related positions
  • Excellent writing and communication skills and strong experience working collaboratively
  • Experience successfully working as part of a development team
  • Experience supporting the successful solicitation of sponsorships and gifts from corporate and individual donors
  • Strong experience in event management including overseeing fundraising events and working as the key contact with venues and vendors
  • Very strong organizational skills including the ability to work independently, develop and implement program plans, manage multiple tasks and work well with colleagues and as part of a team
  • Experience using Salesforce or another comparable CRM system
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Google products and Microsoft Office suite

Additional requirements

  • This position will require the Development Manager to work some evenings and weekends and travel.
  • This position requires some lifting for meeting and event setup. This will include lifting and moving boxes and setting up equipment. Candidates should be comfortable lifting at least 25 pounds.
  • Candidates must be licensed drivers with a safe driving record.
  • Candidates must be willing to submit to background checks.

Compensation

The salary range is $50,000-$60,000 and dependent upon experience. Generous benefit package includes medical, dental and disability insurance, a 6% employer matching contribution to a retirement plan after one year of employment and paid vacation and sick leave.
