This position encompasses the College of Nursing & Health Sciences and the School of Practical Nursing. The College and School of Nursing are located in Geneva, New York, a private,not for profit institution. Programs include an Associate in Applied Science Degree with a major in nursing and an LPN program. The LPN program is one of only three hospital-based practical nursing programs in the entire state of NewYork.
The Dean is responsible for general administration of the college and must provide strategic vision and operational excellence. The Dean helps set an ambitious agenda for the college and leads initiatives to maintain the highest quality academic programs and clinical practice, while maintaining strong relationships with health care providers who provide our students with experience in the clinical setting. The Dean must be a visible, approachable and accessible leader with an outgoing and welcoming personality. He/she must be able to articulate a vision, inspire others and serve as a role model for students, faculty and the nursing profession. He/she must have a demonstrated track record of successfully leading and managing change. He/she must be a person of the highest integrity with high levels of energy. He/she must be able to serve as a strong advocate and champion for the college, advancing its reputation and visibility locally and across the region.
The Dean will also have responsibilities as the Director of Education for the health system.
This position will report directly to the Vice President of Nursing and the President of Nursing & Health Sciences.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Knowledge of the administrative operations of a college including admissions, financial aid, student services, faculty and curriculum development and evaluation, information technology, etc.
Knowledge of accreditation standards.
Ability to manage an academic organization and work effectively and collaboratively with health sytem leaders.
Familiarity with health care systems and their trends, operations and challenges.
Ability to recruit and retain students and faculty.
Demonstrated success managing budgets, growing revenue and fostering professional development.
Ability to deal with rapid change and manage multiple priorities.
Experience applying best practices and innovative strategies to improve student outcomes and the student experience.
Experience establishing, building and developing positive relationships with faculty, staff and students.
Leader who has a willingness to coach, mentor and develop faculty, staff and students.
A keen understanding of the range of opportunities and challenges within the nursing profession, nursing education and health care.
Enthusiasm, willingness and a demonstrated ability to participate in fund raising and engage donors, alumni and the community.
ABOUT THE AREA:
Geneva is a city in New York State, in Ontario and Seneca counties. It is located at the northern end of Seneca Lake, known as the Finger Lakes Region. It boasts quality wine trails, a rich history, natural beauty, and four season attractions.
On Cayuga Lake, the city of Ithaca is home to Cornell University. The surrounding area is marked by high gorges, many with dramatic waterfalls, including Taughannock Falls and Buttermilk Falls.
Near the tip of Seneca Lake, Watkins Glen State Park has rocky cliffs and cascading waterfalls, plus trout fishing. Southwest is the Corning Museum of Glass. In Seneca Falls, the Women's Rights National Historical Park marks the site of the 1848 women's rights convention. To the north is the Old Erie Canal, a pivotal 19th-century waterway now offering hiking, canoeing and fishing. In the northwest, the city of Rochester overlooks Lake Ontario.
Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS:
Master's Degree in nursing, education, healthcare or business administration is required. If Master's Degree is in a field other than nursing, the candidate is expected to enroll in an MSN program and complete within a mutually agreed to period of time.
Bachelor's Degree in nursing is required.
Current license as a registered professional nurse in New York State. If registered in another jurisdiction, candidate must apply for and obtain NYS licensure.
A minimum of five (5) years experience in nursing education is required. Prior administrative experience is desired, preferably within a health system or an academic setting.
At least five (5) years of practice as Registered Professional Nurse is required.
