Miami Dade College is now accepting applications for the Assistant General Counsel, Legal Affairs position. The Assistant General Counsel, Labor provides legal services college-wide as assigned by the General Counsel and provides support to the Legal Affairs department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides day-to-day strategic advice and legal counsel on a broad range of labor and employment topics including, but not limited to recruiting, hiring, employee relations, discipline and termination, internal investigations, reductions-in-force, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, wage and hour compliance, immigration issues, employee benefits, compensation, and union issues ensuring compliance with all applicable law.
- Partners with human resources to continuously develop and improve operating procedures, policies, and practices.
- Drafts, reviews, negotiates, and update essential employment documents and forms, non-employment contracts, agreements, templates, and other written instruments.
- Drafts legal documents and memoranda in collaboration with college administrators.
- Receives, reviews, and tracks inquiries regarding contracts, memorandums, agreements, and other legal matters pertaining to the operation of the College.
- Performs legal research, provides legal opinions, and such other assignments as directed by the General Counsel.
- Provides a high level of professional legal service by representing and advising College on a broad range of legal areas of a nature and volume consistent with that expected within a large, metropolitan, public educational institution.
- Works with outside counsel as required to resolve legal assignments.
Minimum Requirements:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school and possess membership in good standing with the Florida Bar with a minimum of five (5) years of legal experience as a licensed attorney.
- Knowledge and understanding of college organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable Local, State and Federal laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of labor and employment law, education law, public contracts rules and regulations, and various other areas of law including, but not limited to, public records and technology.
- Knowledge of contract development
