The Advisor – Guided Pathways will serve as part of the Advising team in the Student Affairs Division and report to the Associate Dean of Advising. The Academic Advisor support Shoreline Community College (SCC) current and prospective students who plan to transfer to baccalaureate institutions and/or complete a professional/technical degree or certificate.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 

  • Advising current/prospective students in academic course planning, choice of major, career possibilities and alternative educational options; academic difficulties; SCC requirements, policies, and procedures; as well as referral to appropriate programs and support services at SCC
  • Initiating research and developing materials pertinent to advising
  • Initiating/implementing measures and new programs to facilitate student progression, the transfer process, and academic planning
  • Serving as a resource to SCC faculty/staff regarding university and transfer programs/process
  • Maintaining ongoing relations with college and university admissions, advising centers, and individual departments
  • Preparing for and delivering the New Student Orientation, student advising, and registration time sessions for new students
  • Developing/implementing faculty advisor training materials, presentations, and workshops
  • Establishing a professional relationship with faculty and staff at SCC, local community colleges, high schools, and colleges and universities
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
