General Nature of Work

The Accreditation and Certification Manager will have oversight on the CALEA Accreditation and the State Certification program for the City of Kennesaw. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, tactical and strategic. This role requires an understanding of CALEA Accreditation and State Certification in a law enforcement capacity. This position will have the responsibility to determine the best method of program processes and the exercise appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving complex matters. This position will involve close communication and go-between with internal and external uniformed law enforcement members, and will need to understand how to direct activities, schedules deliverable assignments to those members.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the CALEA and state accreditation program and ensure that all required reports and all time sensitive activities occur as needed.
  • Collects source material for the preparation of the department's reports on continued compliance with related standards
  • Compiles and maintains all proofs of compliance with the law enforcement accreditation/certification process
  • Conduct a thorough self-analysis to determine how existing operations can be adapted to meet accreditation/certification objectives
  • Maintain accreditation/certification files to ensure re-accreditation/re-certification, handling standards updates and changes.
  • Manage the software system for policy, training, standards, and other records.
  • Maintain and conduct CALEA orientation for new employees and before on-site assessments.
  • Manage and proactively prepare for the yearly file reviews and the CALEA on-site assessment.
  • Perform compliance inspections based on established guidelines for accreditation/certification.
  • Perform statistical analysis as needed by the department.
  • Research alternate policies and best practices, compile data, and present to command staff.
  • Create and submit reports for chief of police.
  • Attends accreditation/certification related conferences.
  • Serve as a liaison with other law enforcement agencies and staff with regard to the accreditation process.
  • Must be able to utilize the software Power DMS, Accreditation Management
  • Maintains policy and reviews for changes

  • Ability to understand and interpret rules, regulations, and policies

  • Working knowledge of various office equipment, including computer, copier, fax machine, multi-line telephone, etc.
  • Word processing, typing and filing skills are necessary.
  • Ability to use proper spelling, punctuation, grammar, arithmetic, and business English.
  • Skill in proof-reading documents and making appropriate corrections.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical terminology and information specifically related to police work.
  • Must exercise a high degree of confidentiality and integrity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in Police Science, Criminal Justice, or Public Administration or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year related experience.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals.  Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
